BAO BAO Issey Miyake
Legendary Japanese designer Issey Miyake debuted his eponymous womenswear label in 1971, charting a half century of work in fashion design. An industry pioneer, Miyake’s clothing blends traditional Japanese techniques with forward-thinking technology. Much of Miyake’s work is informed by an architectural approach to design, seen in sculptural silhouettes and clothing with purpose. Vibrant colors, advanced pattern making, and a devotion to curiosity are hallmarks of this fashion house now led by Satoshi Kondo.
BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE designs innovative bags innovative from composited forms of a variety of triangles. The bags transform from flat, easily-stored planes into geometric forms as they are filled with items. Alongside their exploration of the possibilities within shapes and the arrangement of geometric pieces, BAO BAO ISSEY MIYAKE develops new techniques and materials. They challenge themselves to explore what defines a bag, while bringing to the user a sense of beauty and joy.
