SOCIAL JUSTICE: MORTAR

Posted by Ashley Rouster Rigby on

Today we wanted to highlight an amazing non-profit here in Cincinnati, MORTAR. One of the first of many steps that we are taking as a white-owned business who is committed to social justice is to donate 15% of our sales for the month of June to MORTAR. Why MORTAR? We believe strongly in their mission of building communities and transforming cities through entrepreneurship. As entrepreneurs ourselves, we know the power and importance of small, locally owned businesses, makers and movers. MORTAR’s commitment to focus on empowering underserved and underrepresented populations right here in the heart of OTR is one of the many reasons we chose to support their work. In their own words they,”...focus on those who are often ignored. By targeting underserved and redeveloping communities, we’re offering these non-traditional entrepreneurs the opportunity to use their inherent talents to not just make a dollar, but to positively participate in the rise of Cincinnati.

Through a 15 week course, MORTAR helps individuals learn how to successfully build and manage their own business. With a goal to launch businesses, create jobs and circulate dollars in the local economy, MORTAR doesn’t stop when the course is finished, but continues to support their entrepreneurs through alumni support and a mentorship network of business leaders. To learn more, get involved, donate or hear directly from their alumni, head over to MORTAR’s website www.wearemortar.com or follow them on social media at @wearemortar.
