Yi-Mei spotted a woman in New York one day - she was wearing a woven bag that tied her outfit together in a unique way Yi-Mei hadn't seen before. After spending some time searching for the perfect bag of her own she realized she just couldn't find it, and took to designing her own bags that held the same effortless quality she was looking for. Inspired by scenes from 1970’s coastal France, Yi-Mei Truxes brought us Bembien, her line of woven handbags and silk scarves.
These handbags catch the eye with their flawless craftsmanship and je nais ses quois. Yi-Mei was sure to take her time to find the perfect production techniques for her line. She landed on a weaving community in Bali, where each bag is crafted by artisans and showcases their unique ways of weaving. The brand donates a percentage of each purchase back to the weaving community in an effort to honor their craft and give them the opportunity to grow and succeed.

The Viola bags in Large and Small are handwoven using 100% recycled materials. A note from Bembien states, "The beautiful island of Bali faces devastating plastic pollution that threatens their eco-system and marine life. New initiatives are galvanizing locals to find alternate ways of recycling plastic. The Balinese are leaders in the global effort to reduce plastic waste (Bali is one of the few places in the world that has banned single use plastic!) We support their efforts and designed these bags to turn a heartbreaking problem into a beautiful solution."
