Let's talk about suSTAINability...

At Idlewild we often speak on the importance of investing in the pieces we choose to add to our wardrobes. Well-made, ethically and sustainably produced garments can last for seasons upon seasons. Idlewild views a sustainable clothing purchase as something that will last a lifetime in a wardrobe, and taking care of those purchases is part of what makes a purchase sustainable.

The Laundress is a line of eco-conscious laundry products that we recommend for taking care of your clothing.

“A work of art built on science, The Laundress collection is sophisticated, eco-conscious, and easy to use.”

Founders Gwen Whiting and Lindsey Boyd met at Cornell University in the Fiber Science, Textile and Apparel Management and Design program. After years of working for big brand fashion houses and curating their wardrobes with designer garments, they grew tired of the cost of maintenance; whether it be expensive dry cleaning bills, or the cost to replace items ruined by the cleaners themselves. With a joint goal in mind, the pair decided the market had to change. They began their research in 2002, ultimately launching their first products in 2004.

We recommend using The Laundress products in accordance with the instructions we lay out in the Idlewild care guide. And, over the next few weeks the Idlewild team will introduce the products now stocked in store; we’ll conduct tutorials and share our success stories with you!
