Based in Cincinnati, Ohio, DAAP graduate Ellen Krikorian produces made-to-order knitwear for her line, ells. The intention behind ells is to create classic silhouettes enhanced by quiet, structural details that provide the perfect garments for everyday wear. Ellen’s passion for the craft of knitting, and interest in architectural clothing and line work, inspires each piece within the core ells collection.
After taking a knitwear class while studying Fashion Design at the University of Cincinnati's Design school, she fell in love with the craft of knitting. Ellen spent time working at Chromat and Kith in New York but found she wasn’t able to dedicate enough time to developing her own brand while working in the metropolitan city. She made the decision to move back to Cincinnati, and Ellen now has a studio space at Sew Valley where she samples and works on her custom knit pieces.
All ells garments are made to order and knit by the designer, thus resulting in zero waste in the production process. Every garment is designed, developed, and produced ethically in Cincinnati, only 5 minutes from Idlewild. Unlike mass produced fast fashion, Ellen creates each piece as it is ordered, in the interest of minimizing environmental impact, and offering the wearer a higher quality, more intentional garment.
